June 24, 2023That's fascinating! The Zytglogge, or Clock Tower, in Bern is indeed a remarkable historical landmark. Its astronomical clock, jacquemart, and chime make it a unique attraction. The clock mechanism is one of the oldest in Switzerland, dating back to 1530. The clock also has an astronomical display showing the time, day, month, zodiac, and moon phases.
Legend has it that Albert Einstein was inspired by the tower to develop his theory of relativity. If the legend is to be believed, this venerable clock inspired a revolution in our concept of time itself. Albert Einstein, who lived not far from the Zytglogge, was allegedly led to his theory of relativity when he looked at the buses coming round the tower and wondered what would happen to them if they moved at the speed of light...
The clock tower and the time difference it showcases between Bern time and summer/winter time.
