June 24, 2023Artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of study and technology development that focuses on creating systems and programs capable of performing tasks that normally require human intelligence. It seeks to simulate human intelligence in machines and endow them with capabilities such as learning, reasoning, perception, natural language understanding, and decision-making. AI has rapidly evolved in recent years and holds tremendous potential to transform various aspects of our lives. However, it also presents a set of challenges that need to be addressed.
The ethics of artificial intelligence
Switzerland is actively striving to establish itself as a leader in promoting ethical standards for AI usage. To achieve this goal, Switzerland is undertaking various initiatives. One noteworthy initiative is the development of the "Swiss Digital Trust Label" which aims to enhance user trust in new technologies. The label intends to provide users with more comprehensive information about digital services, fostering transparency and ensuring adherence to ethical values. Niniane Paeffgen, the director of Swiss Digital Initiative, the organization responsible for the "Swiss Digital Trust Label," emphasizes the desire to ensure that ethical and responsible behavior becomes a competitive advantage for businesses. Empowering Our Minds in the Era of AI
The launch of Chat GPT on November 30th, 2022 marked a paradigm shift. Since that day, AI, previously reserved for professionals, has become accessible to everyone. According to the World Economic Forum's report on the future of employment, a quarter of jobs will undergo transformation within the next four years, primarily due to technological advancements, with AI being a central factor. As AI becomes increasingly present in our lives, it disrupts the skills we need to thrive in a digitized society. Traits such as curiosity, creativity, empathy, collaboration, and problem-solving will be increasingly sought after because they are excluded from the scope of the possibilities of machines. The rise of artificial intelligence sheds light on the importance of teaching critical thinking and ethical reasoning. (ref.: Bilan June 2023)
