ASIA NEWS 5 February- The speaker of Iran’s private sector parliament and head of the country’s chamber of commerce says Tehran is ready to better its economic relations with Switzerland.
In a meeting with Swiss diplomats in Tehran, Gholamhossein Shafei says Switzerland has taken center-stage at recent Iran-P5+1 nuclear talks and that “Tehran would like to make use of this capacity” for economic purposes. “Switzerland is considered as a politically-independent country in Europe and has a market economy with a very advanced banking system, which is highly reliable and uses modern technologies for trade,” he added.
Swiss Ambassador to Tehran Giulio Haas, for his part, said given the multibillion-dollar value of transactions between the two countries, Switzerland is ranked one of Iran’s biggest partners in Europe. “Throughout these years, none of Swiss companies active in Iran ended their activities, but they just reduced them under the (special) circumstances (that they were in),” he said, adding that the two countries’ embassies are witnessing more visits aimed at improving bilateral cooperation.
